End of summer...

Yesterday was a bittersweet day (no pun intended) as we wrapped up Jon and Nathan's summer internships with the traditional field trip for ice cream! Jon is heading off to his junior year at Saranac Lake High School, and we will miss his sense of humor and hard work at the Museum! Good luck at school, Jon!

We are excited to share that Nathan is going to be staying on with us for the fall, continuing his work on inventorying and rehousing our collections! Nathan is a recent high school graduate, and is hoping to start a Museum Studies degree in the near future. We are happy to have his enthusiasm for history and the collections as we prepare to move to the Trudeau Building and make our collections more available to the public.

All of this great work is made possible by the Ralph Kelly Education Fund with support from Kay and Marvin Best.

This week's Tuberculosis Thursday feature comes from our Art of the Cure exhibit! This photograph shows William Kollecker helping a customer in his shop on Main Street. Kollecker came to Saranac Lake at age 16 for his health, and stayed on to photograph life in Saranac Lake for nearly 50 years! He opened Kollecker Kodak and Gift Shop where he sold prints, stationery, and gifts and handled film processing.

To learn more about William Kollecker, his store, and his photography work, visit our wiki! And be sure to visit our Art of the Cure exhibit, open now!
