Group

Tours

Historic Saranac Lake offers a selection of tours by appointment only, during regular museum hours. Some of these tours are offered on a regularly scheduled basis, check out our Events page to see all upcoming tours.

Please note: special group tours have a minimum charge of $30, plus an additional cost per person based on the number of sites and participants. Tours for school groups are calculated based on the number of students. Please contact us by phone (518-891-4606) or email to confirm availability and price.

Tours can be combined depending on your interest. The following tours are generally available:

the Saranac Laboratory Museum

Historic Saranac Lake offers special guided tours of the Saranac Laboratory Museum to groups; from schools, to summer programs, to members of the public. The tour can be tailored based upon the age, size, and interest of the group.

Trudeau Sanatorium

Tour the grounds of the former Trudeau Sanatorium, now a privately owned campus (and home to the American Management Association). This is an entirely outdoor walking tour and takes place rain or shine. The tour price includes admission to the Saranac Laboratory Museum.

Downtown Saranac Lake

Take a walk and learn about the history of Saranac Lake’s downtown! The tour begins in Riverside Park, makes its way along Main Street, and ends at the Saranac Laboratory Museum on Church Street. This is an entirely outdoor walking tour and takes place rain or shine. The tour price includes same-day admission to the Saranac Laboratory Museum.

The downtown walking tour is also available as a self-guided tour on the Clio website or the Clio app (iOS and Android).

Little Red and Trudeau Statue

Tour of one of Saranac Lake's first cure cottages and a pay visit to the statue of Dr. Trudeau. Both icons of the "fresh air cure" for tuberculosis have been relocated to the grounds of Trudeau Institute. This is a primarily outdoor walking tour and takes place rain or shine. The tour price includes same-day admission to the Saranac Laboratory Museum.

The Bartók Cabin

Tour the small cabin where Hungarian composer Bèla Bartók spent the last summer of his life. These tours are available when the museum is open, by appointment only, and dependent on staff or volunteer availability, so advance notice of at least 48 hours is required. This is a partially outdoor tour and takes place rain or shine, but please note the cabin may be inaccessible in winter months due to snow. The Bartok Cabin is on private property, so access is only available through Historic Saranac Lake. Please call (518-891-4606) or email to set up an appointment.
