In 2011, Historic Saranac Lake made a renewed commitment to our founding purpose as an architectural
preservation organization. A committee of the board has been formed to pay attention to crucial preservation issues. See page 3 of our fall newsletter to find out more!
In 2006, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Saranac Lake a Distinctive Destination. Since 1980, Historic Saranac Lake has worked to educate, interpret, and protect the integrity of its historic downtown. This small but vital community shared this designation with eleven other model communities located across the country. All earned this distinction due to its commitment to protection of its historic core through historic preservation practice, its dedication to well-managed growth, the viability of its locally owned small businesses, and its accessibility as a walkable community for its residents and visitors.
Historic Saranac Lake shares the further distinction as a local historic preservation organization, a colleague in New York State, advocating for the built environment through education and technical assistance.
On this page we will highlight local and regional preservation topics and issues of interest. As we expand this page, it is our goal to help keep you informed and provide you with solutions to your preservation concerns.
